Women’s Soccer Blanks Saint Mary’s 5-0 Saturday

Calvin got back on the winning track with a 5-0 victory at Saint Mary’s Saturday afternoon. Calvin led 2-0 at halftime and received five saves from sophomore goalkeeper Ashton Hearn to post the shutout victory. Calvin is now 8-9-0 overall and 8-5-0 in the MIAA. The Knights remain six points behind Kalamazoo for fourth place in the MIAA standings.
Calvin got on the scoreboard in the 11th minute on senior Kara Zondervan’s goal as she ripped in a shot off a pass from junior Francesca Smith. Junior Liz Cancel then put the Knights up 2-0 five minutes later on a shot from the top of the box.
In the second half, sophomore Paige Rindels and freshman Sam Osterhaven scored unassisted goals while Smith scored off an assist from Cancel in the 83rd minute of play to close out the scoring.
Calvin will travel to Olivet next Wednesday for a 4 p.m. conference match.
