ROCK ISLAND, IL – In a rematch of a national semi-quarterfinal NCAA III Tournament game from a year ago, Calvin and Augustana (IL) battled to a 0-0 double-overtime tie. Both teams came into the contest nationally-ranked as host Augustana was ranked 10th in the most recent Division III Coaches Top 25 poll while Calvin came in ranked 20th in the same poll.
In regulation time, both teams finished with six shots apiece. The two teams then traded momentum in overtime as the Knights outshot the host Vikings (4-0-2) 3-1 in the first overtime with Augustana coming back to outshoot Calvin 4-0 in the final 10 minutes including a flurry of three shots at goal in the final two minutes of play.
Calvin freshman goalkeeper Ashton Hearn (Port Huron/Port Huron HS) was superb in nets for the Knights, collecting six saves including a key save in the second overtime session. Hearn now has seven shutouts on year with a season goals-against-average of 0.12.
Sophomore Francesca Smith (Bloomington, IN/Bloomington South HS) led Calvin in shots with three including a pair of shots that were on goal.
Augustana finished the game with an 11-9 shots at goal advantage. Kayla Radloff had four saves for the Vikings.
Calvin will now break for a week and will return to action next Saturday when it travels to Ohio Wesleyan for a 3 p.m. non-conference game.
