Tuesday, March 12, 2013
CALEDONIA - On an evening filled with snowflakes, the Calvin women’s lacrosse team dropped a 12-3 decision to Alma College at Davenport University’s Turf Field. Although the team was between two MIAA schools, it was an early non-conference game as the league season will not start for Calvin until April.
Alma (5-1) led 8-0 at halftime, scoring five goals in a four-and-a-half minute flurry in the first half to take control.
Calvin (0-3) later came back with three unanswered goals to close to within 10-3 in the second half but the Scots scored the final two tallies to seal the win.
Senior Katie Pranger (Denver, CO/Denver Christian HS) scored her team-leading sixth goal of the year while senior Nicole Perregaux (Upton, MA/Nipmuc Regional) scored off a feed from freshman Carolyn Forbes (Farmington Hills/Marian HS) while sophomore Nikita Blaauwendraat (Princeport, Novia Scotia/Cobequid Educational Centre) scored unassisted.
Alma held a 36-24 shots at goal advantage. Senior Lauren Spoelstra (Oakland, NJ/Eastern Christian HS) had 14 saves for the Knights in goal.
Calvin will host Hope Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. in a non-conference game at Davenport’s Turf Stadium.
