HOLLAND - Calvin’s MIAA Tournament hopes came to a close with a 10-4 loss at rival Hope Wednesday afternoon. Earlier in the year, Calvin nipped Hope 10-9 in a non-conference game but on Wednesday, Hope turned the tables with a strong second half.

Calvin (3-12 overall, 1-4 MIAA)  battled Hope to a 2-2 halftime draw but the host Flying Dutch (5-8 overall, 3-2 MIAA) scored five unanswered goals in the second half to build a 9-3 lead and never looked back.

Both teams finished with 25 shots and Calvin held a 22-20 edge in ground balls but Hope was able to find the back of the net more often than the Knights.

Calvin received lone goals from freshman Cory Remy (Zeeland/Zeeland East HS), sophomore Nikita Blaauwendraat (Princeport, Nova Scotia/Cobequid Educational Centre), sophomore Lissa Busscher (Holland/Holland Christian HS) and sophomore Karissa Reed (Greenville/Greenville HS).

Senior Lauren Spoelstra (Oakland, NJ/Eastern Christian HS) had 10 saves in goal for Calvin.

The Knights conclude their season on Saturday, hosting Olivet at 12:30 p.m.
