BATTLE CREEK - The Calvin women’s golf team took third place at the MIAA Fall Tournament with a team score of 695 strokes. It marked Calvin’s best-ever finish at the tournament. Calvin finished one stroke ahead of rival Hope at the tournament and finished fourth in the final MIAA fall standings.

Olivet defended its MIAA fall title from a year ago, finishing with a two-day first place total of 659 strokes while Saint Mary’s was second with 680 strokes. The 36-hole MIAA Fall Tournament makes up the final two rounds of the six-round MIAA fall season.

In finishing fourth in the final league standings, Calvin once again qualifies for the four-team MIAA Spring Tournament which determines the league’s automatic qualifier to the NCAA III Tournament.

Junior Carlia Canto (Marysville/Port Huron Northern HS) was again the catalyst for the Knights, shooting a two-day total of 161 (79-82) that left her in second place in the final tournament standings. Canto earned a spot on the All-Tournament team for the second straight year and also finished third in the final MIAA overall fall standings to land a spot on the All-MIAA first team. Canto finished the fall season with an average of 81.2 strokes-per-round, breaking her own school (season) record of 82.7 set a year ago.

Senior Elise Doezema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) had a two-day total of 172 (86-86) to finish tied for 11th at the tournament. She also finished sixth in the final MIAA overall standings to earn a spot on the All-MIAA first team for the first time in her career.
