Women’s Golf Takes Fourth at MIAA Jamboree

ANGOLA, IN - The Calvin women’s golf team had a strong showing at its first MIAA competition of the year, finishing fourth Thursday at an MIAA Jamboree hosted by Trine University. Calvin took fourth with a team score of 348 strokes, just three strokes behind Olivet and six strokes behind Saint Mary’s.
Hope took first place with a team score of 325 while host Trine was fifth with a team score of 357.
Calvin was led by junior Elise Doezema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) who tied for third place individually with a career-best round of 81. Sophomore Carlia Canto (Marysville/Port Huron Northern HS) was next for Calvin with an 86 that was good for 13th place.
Freshman Jackie Richert (Fort Gratiot/Port Huron Northern HS) had Calvin’s third-best round, carding a score of 90 while junior Rachel Whitaker (Grand Rapids/Forest Hills Northern HS) had a season-best round of 91 while freshman Laura Richert (Fort Gratiot/Port Huron Northern HS) had a 97.
Brittany Haight of Hope was the tournament medalist with a round of 77.
Calvin returns to action on September 21 when it competes at an MIAA Jamboree hosted by Hope.
