Women’s Golf Places Fourth at MIAA Spring Tournament Round Number-Three

MARSHALL - The Calvin women’s golf team took fourth at the third and final MIAA spring tournament round of the season. Calvin posted a team score of 353 at Saturday’s 18-hole round hosted by Olivet at the Medalist Golf Club. The Knights finish fourth in the final MIAA spring tournament standings with a 54-hole total of 1,091 strokes.

Saint Mary’s and Olivet tied for first place on Saturday with scores of 328 with Hope third at 329. Saint Mary’s took first place in the overall spring standings and receives the MIAA’s automatic bid to the NCAA III Tournament.

In Saturday’s round, freshman Jackie Richert (Fort Gratiot/Port Huron Northern HS) led Calvin with a round of 82 that was good for a tie for fifth place individually. Sophomore Carlia Canto (Marysville/Port Huron Northern HS) was Calvin’s second best finisher with a round of 86 that tied her for 13th. Junior Elise Doezema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) was next with an 87 (tie for 15th) while junior Rachel Whitaker (Grand Rapids/Forest Hills Northern HS) rounded out Calvin’s finishers with a round of 98 (23rd place).

This spring marked Calvin’s first-ever appearance in the MIAA’s four-team spring tournament that is used to determine the league’s automatic qualifier to the NCAA III Tournament.
