Women’s Golf Fourth at MIAA Jamboree - Remains Fourth in Overall MIAA Standings

BATTLE CREEK – Calvin began the first of three days of competition at the Bedford Valley Country Club Thursday afternoon, finishing fourth at the final MIAA Jamboree of the year with a team score of 352 strokes. The Knights remain in fourth place in the overall MIAA standings heading into the 36-hole MIAA Tournament scheduled for this weekend at Bedford Valley.

The Knights are 68 strokes ahead of Adrian for fourth place and trail Saint Mary’s by 29 strokes for third place. Hope continues to lead the overall standings, 15 strokes ahead of Olivet. On Thursday, Hope and Olivet tied for first place with scores of 322 strokes. Saint Mary’s was third with a team score of 344.

Calvin was led individually on Thursday by sophomore Carlia Canto (Marysville/Port Huron Northern HS) with a round of 79 that was good for fourth place individually. Junior Elise Doezema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) tied for 11th with an 85 while freshman Jackie Richert (Fort Gratiot/Port Huron Northern HS) had a 92, freshman Laura Richert (Fort Gratiot/Port Huron Northern HS) a 96 and junior Rachel Whitaker (Grand Rapids/Forest Hills Northern HS) a 107.

Friday’s MIAA Tournament action is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. with Saturday’s action slated for 9 a.m.
