WEST OLIVE - The Calvin women’s golf team produced a team score of 384 strokes Tuesday afternoon at the first MIAA spring qualifying tournament. Tuesday’s tournament was hosted by Hope at the Wuskowhan Player’s Club and was the first of three rounds that consist of the MIAA’s spring tournament that determines the league’s automatic qualifier to the NCAA III Tournament.

Only the top four teams from the MIAA fall regular season standings are eligible to compete for the MIAA’s automatic bid to the NCAA III Championships.

In Tuesday’s competition, Adrian joined Saint Mary’s, Olivet, Hope and Calvin as a non-eligible team for the automatic bid.

Saint Mary’s took a commanding lead in the MIAA spring tournament standings with a round of 324 Tuesday. The Belles took third in the MIAA regular season standings this fall.

Olivet posted a second place score of 345 Tuesday while Hope was third (350), Adrian fourth (non AQ eligible) at 376 and Calvin fifth (384).

Calvin’s top two golfers on Tuesday were sophomore Carlia Canto with an 86 and freshman Jaclyn Richert with a 90. Canto finished in eighth place individually while Richert tied for 12th place.

The MIAA spring tournament will conclude with a 36-hole weekend tournament on April 27 and 28 at the Medalist Golf Club with MIAA regular season champion Olivet serving as host.
