Women’s Basketball Remains Unbeaten in League Play With 76-35 Win at Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO - The Calvin women’s basketball team improved to 7-2 overall and 3-0 in MIAA play with a 76-35 win at Kalamazoo College Saturday afternoon.
Calvin led 38-12 at halftime and never looked back. Sophomore Carissa Verkaik (Holland Christian HS) had 22 points and five rebounds while junior Courtney Kurncz (St. Johns HS) and sophomore Ally Wolffis (Muskegon-Mona Shores HS) had eight points apiece. Sophomore Julia Hilbrands (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) also came off the bench to provide six points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Logan Marsh (Byron Center HS) also provided a game-high five assists. Calvin played 13 players on Saturday and 11 individuals reaching the scoring column.
“I thought we had a good performance, particularly coming off an emotional win over Carthage Wednesday night,” said Calvin women’s basketball coach John Ross. “We are playing with some confidence right now which is important because we have some challenging games ahead of us on the schedule. Any time you can get a conference win, it’s a good win so we feel good about we we accomplished this afternoon.”
Calvin shot 49.2 percent overall in the win over the Hornets and held a 51-25 rebounding advantage.
Calvin returns to action on December 18 when it hosts Albion at 1 p.m.
