Women’s Basketball Receives Academic Honors From WBCA - Places Fifth on NCAA III List

The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) has announced its 2008-2009 Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll for NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA and Junior college/Community College and Calvin College is one of 25 Division III schools that have been so honored. The awards recognize teams throughout the nation that have the highest grade point averages (GPA) for the 2008-2009 season based upon nominations submitted by WBCA-member coaches.

Under the direction of head coach John Ross, the Calvin women’s basketball team compiled a 3.503 cumulative grade point average, leaving the Knights ranked fith on the list of 25 Division III teams that made the honor roll. This is the fourth straight year that Calvin has received the honor. Hope College joins Calvin as one of two MIAA schools on the list as the Flying Dutch finished 13th on the list of 25.

Maryville University-St. Louis leads this year’s 25-team list with a 3.625 grade point average.

Earlier this summer, the Calvin women’s basketball team earned the MIAA’s Team GPA Award which requires a minimum grade point average of 3.30.
