Warners Picks Up Win #200 As Volleyball Team Takes Second at ONU Invite

ADA, OH—Calvin women’s volleyball coach Amber Warners picked up the 200th victory of her collegiate coaching career in five-set victory over Carnegie-Mellon Saturday afternoon at the Ohio Northern Invitational. Calvin defeated Carnegie-Mellon in come-from-behind fashion, winning by scores of 16-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-22, 15-8. Calvin (3-1-0) then fell to the College of Mount St. Joseph 25-18, 23-25, 28-26, 25-16 in the championship finals to finish the tournament with a 3-1 record.

Now in her seventh year as head coach of the Calvin women’s volleyball program and in her eighth year as a collegiate volleyball coach, Warners is now 200-52 in her collegiate career. Prior to the start of the 2008 season, Warners was 197-51 for a winning percentage of .794 that ranked her fourth among active Division III coaches for winning percentage. A native of Holland, Warners is a 1990 graduate of Calvin where she was a standout in both volleyball and softball.


In addition to her seven years at Calvin, Warners also served as interim head coach of the Hope women’s volleyball team in 1994 where she led the Flying Dutch to a 21-11 record.

In Calvin’s win over Carnegie-Mellon on Saturday, the Knights received 25 kills from freshman Rebecca Kamp (Orland Park, IL) with Kamp also collecting six blocks. Junior Nora Bruskewitz (Milwaukee, WI) had 25 assists while sophomore Carolyn Nelson (Milan) had 23 assists. Senior outside hitter Jessica Garlick (Kalamazoo Christian HS) also contributed 10 kills and three blocks. Senior libero Lauren DeGroot (Tulare, CA) added 16 digs.

In the loss to the College of Mount St. Joseph, Kamp had 16 kills and six blocks while sophomore Kim Wigboldy (Chandler, AZ) had seven kills. Bruskewitz contributed 32 assists while DeGroot had 17 digs.

Kamp, DeGroot and junior Sara Kramer (Dyer, IN) were all named to the all-tournament team.
