Volleyball Teams Picks Up Road Win at Olivet - Remains on Top of MIAA Standings

OLIVET - The ninth-ranked Calvin women’s volleyball team remained on top of the MIAA standings with a 25-22, 25-11, 25-17 victory at Olivet Friday evening. The host Comets (6-4 overall, 3-2 MIAA) jumped out to a 19-16 lead in set one but the Knights rallied to score nine of the next 12 points to gain the set one win and take the momentum throughout the remainder of the match.
Junior Rebecca Kamp (Orland Park, IL/Chicago Christian HS) had a huge match with 17 kills, a hitting percentage of .600 and seven block assists. She was also credited with a pair of service aces and a pair of digs. Junior Erin VanderPlas (Cadillac, MI/McBain Christian HS) also had a stellar evening with nine kills and an attack percentage of .467. Freshman setter Megan Rietema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) tallied 37 assists and also had seven block assists.
Junior Renee DeHaan (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) chipped in with six kills and four block assists. Sophomore Julia Hilbrands (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) came off the bench to provide three kills, three digs, two block assists and one block solo. Sophomore Lizzie Kamp (Orland Park, IL/Chicago Christian HS) contributed five kills, seven digs and two block assists. Junior libero Kelly Peterson (Ramsey, MN/Anoka HS) had a team-leading nine digs.
As a team, Calvin had 22 block assists.
Calvin (11-2 overall, 6-0 MIAA) returns to action on September 29 when it travels to Kalamazoo for a 7 p.m. match.
