GRAND RAPIDS—The second ranked Calvin Knights improved their record to 17-1 on the year, defeating the Hornets of Kalamazoo College in three sets by scores of 25-8, 25-7, 25-11.
With the Knights rolling on all cylinders for most of the match, the Hornets had a tough task at hand. Calvin jumped ahead early and never looked back, hitting an impressive .507 clip as a team. The Knights also tallied eight team blocks.
In order from oldest to youngest, the three Kamp sisters led Calvin’s balanced attack. Senior Lizzie Kamp (Orland Park, IL/Chicago Christian) had seven kills, sophomore Stacey Kamp (Orland Park, IL/Chicago Christian) had six, and freshman Maggie Kamp (Orland Park, IL/Chicago Christian) had five. Junior setter Megan Rietema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian) served up a game-high 29 assists and also had eight digs.
“Every one stepped up today,” said junior Kristen Zietse (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian). “It was great to see both our offense and defense look sharp no matter who was in the game.”
Calvin is now 17-1, 10-0 in the MIAA on the year, while Kalamazoo drops to 6-14, 2-8 in the MIAA.
The Knights now look ahead to next Wednesday, when they travel to Olivet to face off against the Comets at 6:30 p.m.
