Volleyball Rolls to Win Over Olivet - Remains Tied for MIAA Lead

The ninth-ranked Calvin volleyball team improved to 23-3 overall and 13-1 in the MIAA with a 25-12, 25-20, 25-14 win over visiting Olivet Saturday afternoon at Calvin’s Van Noord Arena. Calvin remains tied with Hope for the league lead with one week of league play left on the schedule. Calvin will host Kalamazoo next Friday and Alma the following afternoon to close out its MIAA regular season campaign.

Calvin treated a festive homecoming weekend crowd to an impressive performance as the Knights hit a blistering .374 on the floor. Juniors Erin VanderPlas (Cadillac/McBain Christian HS) and Rebecca Kamp (Orland Park, IL/Chicago Christian HS) had 11 kills apiece with Kamp recording 11 block assists.

Freshman setter Megan Rietema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) also had a big day with five kills, 35 assists, 11 block assists and one block solo. Sophomore Lizzie Kamp (Orland Park, IL/Chicago Christian HS) pitched in with eight kills and 10 digs. while junior Renee DeHaan (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Chrisitan HS) had seven kills. Junior Kelly Peterson (Ramsey, MN/Anoka HS) chipped in with 14 digs.

Calvin’s match next Friday against Kalamazoo is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
