The top-ranked Knights upheld their perfect record with a sweep of the Olivet Comets on Friday night.  Calvin won by scores of 25-15, 25-9, and 25-14.

The Comets kept things competitive in the first set.  Calvin pulled ahead to a 17-12 advantage in the set’s intermediate stages after Rebecca Kamp pounded her sixth kill of the night.  Kamp set the tone for a strong match with six kills in the first set.  Lizzie Kamp echoed her sister with a kill down the line, which proved to be her attacking spot of choice.

Two points shy of taking the set, the Knights put hands on three consecutive Comet attack and blocked the third, to set up Calvin with set point.  The Knights took the first set by a score of 25-15.

Calvin came out with fire in the second set.  The Knights jumped out to an early lead and Megan Rietema extended that lead with a lengthy service run to take the score to 16-3.  Kim Start then recorded another ace for the Knights and Calvin cruised to a 25-9 victory in the second set.

In the third set, Rebecca Kamp started things off with a strong kill up the middle.  She then followed the up with a service ace off the tape.  The Knights would take six points off camps serve.  Kelly Peterson then aced the Comet backline to bring the score 16-8.  Lizzie Kamp then swung to the line in the set’s late stages and Calvin took the third set 25-14.

With the commanding victory, Coach Amber Warners was able to play her entire roster.

“It was really nice that all the players put in the same amount of work.  Everyone played really well tonight,” she said.

The victory improves Calvin’s record to 24-0 overall and 12-0 in conference.
