Volleyball Rebounds To Defeat Mount Union and Mount St. Joseph at Wittenberg Border Battle

SPRINGFIELD, OH—After dropping a pair of matches to nationally-ranked opponents on Friday night at the Wittenberg Border Battle, Calvin bounced back to defeat Mount Union 25-22, 25-23, 25-16 and the College of Mount St. Joseph 23-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-23.

Ranked 10th in the latest AVCA Division III Top 25 poll, Calvin is now 8-3 on the year after finishing 2-2 at the weekend tournament.

In the win over Mount Union, Calvin received 13 kills and 10 digs from sophomore Rebecca Kamp (Orland Park, IL/Chicago Christian HS) while freshman Lizzie Kamp (Orland Park, IL/Chicago Christian HS) had nine kills. Senior setter Nora Bruskewitz (Milwaukee, WI/Milwaukee Lutheran HS) had 34 assists while seniors Kelsey Sears (Traverse City/Traverse City West HS) and Katie Corbett (St. Joseph/Stevensville-Lakeshore HS) had 18 and 14 digs respectively. Sophomore Kelly Peterson (Ramsey, MN/Anoka HS) also had 16 digs.

Against the College of Mount St. Joseph, Lizzie Kamp tallied 14 kills and four block assists while sophomore Erin VanderPlas (Cadillac/McBain Christian HS) had nine kills and eight digs. Sophomore Renee DeHaan (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) had eight kills, two block solos and three block assists while Rebecca Kamp had eight kills, nine digs, four service aces and six block assists. Bruskewitz had 40 assists at setter while Corbett tallied 24 digs in the back row. Sears was credited with 16 digs while Peterson had 12 digs.

At the conclusion of the tournament, Rebecca Kamp and Sears were both named to the all tournament team.

Calvin is back in action on Tuesday when it travels to Adrian for a 6:30 p.m. conference match.
