Volleyball Blanks Adrian, Improves to 16-1 on the Season

GRAND RAPIDS – The Calvin women’s volleyball team continued its winning ways Friday, defeating the Adrian Bulldogs in straight sets by scores of 25-8, 25-16, 25-16.
Calvin never let Adrian in the match. In all three sets, the Knights got to ten points before the Bulldogs got to six. Calvin led by as much as 17 in the first set, 15 in the second set and nine in the third set.
The Knight used a balanced attack, headed up by two of the Kamp sisters. Senior Lizzie Kamp (Orland Park, IL/Chicago Christian) and freshmen Maggie Kamp (Orland Park, IL/Chicago Christian) each scored 11 kills. Sophomores Emily Crowe (Granger, IN/Mishawaka Penn) and Brittany Rosendale (Jenison/Unity Christian) had three blocks apiece. Junior setter Megan Rietema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian) dished out 34 assists while also scoring seven kills.
Stephanie Holloman led Adrian with five kills while hitting a .714 clip in defeat.
Calvin hit a blistering .413 clip while holding Adrian to an even .000, 16 kills and 16 attack errors. The Knights did struggle in the service department with 10 service errors.
“I was happy with the level of play throughout the match,” Calvin head coach Amber Warners said. “We lost our concentration a little on serves.”
Calvin improves to 16-1, 9-0 in the MIAA on the season. The loss drops Adrian to 5-10, 4-5 in the MIAA.
The Knights return to action Saturday afternoon when they host the Hornets of Kalamazoo at Calvin’s Van Noord Arena.
