Tyler Kruis Named MIAA Player of the Week in Men’s Basketball For Second Time

ROYAL OAK, Mich. Ė The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin center Tyler Kruis its Player of the Week in menís basketball for games played through January 18. Kruis, a senior from Grand Rapids (Grandville Calvin Christian HS), averaged 22.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocked shots in leading the Knights to a pair of MIAA victories. He scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds in just 22 minutes of action in a 78-54 victory over Adrian, then scored a career-high 27 points on 12-of-15 shooting from the field, and collected seven boards in a 90-72 win over Kalamazoo. Kruis, who is being honored as Player of the Week for the second time this season and third time in his career, shot 74 percent from the field (20 of 27) for the week. Calvin is back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Trine at 7:30 p.m. at Van Noord Arena in a showdown for first place in the MIAA standings. Both teams are locked in a four-way tie along with Albion and Hope with 3-1 conference records.
