ROYAL OAK, Mich.  – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin forward Travis Vegter its Offensive Player of the Week in men’s soccer for games played through Oct. 21. Vegter, a sophomore from Hudsonville (Unity Christian HS), scored two goals and assisted on two others in leading the Knights to a pair of wins that moved them into sole possession of first place in the MIAA. He scored the game’s first goal in a 2-1 victory over Hope, then scored another goal and added two assists in a 4-1 win over Albion. Vegter, who is tied for the MIAA scoring lead with 19 points (seven goals, five assists in league play) is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in his career. Calvin is back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Kalamazoo at 4 p.m. at Zuidema Field. The Knights currently hold a three-point lead over Olivet for first place in the MIAA standings.
