Track & Field Teams Compete at Lynchburg Open

LYNCHBURG, VA - The Calvin men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Lynchburg College Open on Saturday.

The Calvin men’s team took third with 75 points while the Calvin women’s team took sixth with 39 points.

Top marks for the Calvin men included senior Greg Whittle (Galesburg, IL/Galesburg HS) winning the 5,000 meters (15:34.74) and senior Job Christiansen (New Ipswich, NH/Mascenic Regional HS) winning the 10,000 meters (31:18.23). Sophomore Steven Haagsma (Grandville/Calvin Christian HS) also took second in the steeplecahse with a time of 9:37.77.

On the women’s side, junior Alyssa Oram (Cheboygan) took second in the steeple (11:45.92), senior Kaylea Brase (Lino Lakes, MN/Centennial HS) took second in the 1,500 meters (4:46.46) and sophomore Kate Ardinger (Elmhurst, IL/Timothy Christian HS) took third third in the 5,000 meters (18:38.06).
