Swimming and Diving Teams Record Dual Meet Victories at Alma

ALMA - The Calvin men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams picked up MIAA dual meet victories at Alma Saturday afternoon with the men defeating the host Scots 149-84 while the Calvin women’s team defeated Alma 150-66.
Both Calvin teams are now 1-1 in dual meet action this year.
In the women’s meet, Calvin took first place in 10 events. Freshman Elizabeth Schleh (Mount Vernon, WA) was a double-winner, taking first place in the 200 IM (2:23.62) and 500 freestyle (5:32.89). Other individual winners included freshman Claire Strunk (Evanston, IL) in the 1,000 freestyle (11:09.70), senior Kendra Kinzer (Fort Wayne, IN) in the 200 freestyle (2:03.01), sophomore Stephanie Fox (Kentwood, MI) in the 50 freestyle (26.20), sophomore Rachel Bos (Unity Christian HS) in the 100 butterfly (1:02.96), sophomore Rachel Colasurdo (Chesapeake, VA) in the 100 freestyle (55.67), senior Monica Bressler (Sandusky, OH) in the 100 backstroke (1:04.51) and freshman Elise Kauffman (Sugerland, TX) on the three-meter diving board (245.90). Calvin’s 200 medley relay of senior Caitlin Alexander (Holland Christian HS), Colasurdo, sophomore Kristen Bjorklund (Saint Paul, MN) and freshman Margaret Rechel (Worthington, OH) took first place in a time of 1:56.02.
On the men’s side, Calvin received wins from junior Ross Battoclette (Cincinnati, OH) in the 50 freestyle (22.58) and 100 freestyle (49.21), freshman Andrew Krafft (Fort Wayne, IN) on the three-meter board (256.45) and one-meter board (285.75), sophomore Stephen Kraft (Warsaw, IN) in the 100 backstroke (56.47) and freshman Peter Johnson (Oak Forest, IL) in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.77). Calvin’s 200 freestyle relay team of sophomore Devin Heitz (Brockport, NY), junior Greg Gorham (Minneapolis, MN), sophomore Mark Rushlow (Goshen, IN) and freshman Casey Harless (DeWitt, MI) took first place in a time of 1:33.53. Calvin’s 200 medley relay of freshman Andrew Mitchell (Iron Mountain, MI), Gorham, Johnson and Rushlow also claimed first in a time of 1:42.35.
Both Calvin teams return to action next Saturday, traveling to Wheaton (IL) for non-conference dual meets.
