Swimming and Diving Teams Open Seasons at MIAA Relays

HOLLAND Ė The Calvin menís and womenís swimming and diving teams opened up their seasons on Saturday at the MIAA Relays held at the Holland Aquatic Center. The competition was unscored and featured several relays that are not otherwise used in collegiate competition.
In the menís competition, Calvin posted a win in the 200 butterfly relay with the quartet of sophomore Peter Johnson, sophomore Andrew Mitchell, freshman Brandon Vagt and junior Mark Rushlow recording a tie of 1:36.63. Calvinís 3x500 freestyle relay team of junior Mathias Bares, freshman Travis Vincent and freshman Alex Bauwmann won with a time of 15:25.07.
On the womenís side, Calvin took first place in the 200 butterfly relay with the team of senior Rachel Bos, junior Shelby Cloyd, junior Rachel Colasurdo and sophomore Maria Sedjo clocking in with a time of 1:52.89. Calvinís 3x500 freestyle relay team of freshman Kathryn Wrobel, junior Stephanie Fox and junior Shelby Cloyd also won with a time of 16:16.09 while its 4x100 IM relay team of Colasurdo, junior Elizabeth Counsell, junior Savannah VanWormer and Fox took first in a time of 4:19.33.
Both Calvin teams will host Grand Valley State in non-conference dual meets this coming Friday night at Calvinís Venema Aquatic Center.
