Spoelstra and Van Alten Receive All-MIAA Second Team Honors

The All-MIAA baseball teams have been announced and two members of the Calvin baseball team have been selected to the All-MIAA second team. Selected to the All-MIAA second team from Calvin are senior Keith Spoelstra and junior Jake Van Alten.

Spoelstra is from Oakland, New Jersey. He is a graduate of Eastern Christian High School and is receiving All-MIAA second team honors for the second time in his career. A pitcher, Spoelstra was third in the MIAA in pitching victories (5), complete games (6) and innings pitched (48.1) while also ranking ninth in strikeouts (33).

Spoelstra was 5-2 in league play this spring with an ERA of 2.98. During the season, he was named MIAA Pitcher of the Week once.

Van Alten is from Holland and is a graduate of Holland Christian High School. Calvin’s starting leftfielder over the last three years, Van Alten batted .329 in league play to rank 10th in the MIAA batting race. He also collected nine sacrifice hits and was superb on defense, commiting only one error in 54 chances for a .981 fielding percentage.
