Calvin dropped its first two games in Arizona, falling 3-2 to Gustavus Adolphus and 9-0 to Trinity of Texas on Saturday. The Knights are now 2-2 on the year.

In the loss to Gustavus Adolphus, sophomore Lina Avila (Lakewood, CA/Valley Christian HS) belted a two-run homer to gave Calvin a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Freshman Trista Brownlee (Saginaw/Saginaw Valley Lutheran HS) tossed a three-hitter but was victimized by errors as the Golden Gusties came back to score three unearned runs to gain the win.

In the loss to Trinity, Calvin went hitless as Trinity rolled to the five-inning mercy-rule win. Avila took the loss in the pitcher’s circle.

Calvin is back in action on Monday when it faces North Central and Carthage out of the CCIW.
