In game one, Calvin used a nine-run second inning outburst to put the game away. Senior Whisper Miller (Reed City HS), sophomore Marie Prins (Unity Christian HS) and freshman Lauren Spoelstra (Oakland, NJ) also had doubles in the game. Freshman Shelby Mast went all five innings and allowed just one hit, striking out four and walking none. Mast is now 7-8 on the year.
In game two, senior Mandy Johnson (Northpointe Christian HS) went all six innings for Calvin to pick up her victory of the season. Johnson (1-1) struck out four and scattered five hits. Meanwhile, Calvin collected 11 hits led by Prins who went 3-for-4 to raise her season batting average to .408. Sophomore Kim VandenAkker (Grand Rapids Christian HS) also had an inside-the-park grand slam homer, belting the ball to deep right with the bases full and racing around the bases ahead of the throw.
Freshman Bekah Kline (Rochester, MI) also had three hits while freshman Aubree Thompson (Grand Rapids Christian HS) had two hits.
Calvin returns to action on Friday night when it travels to Judson University (IL) for a twilight doubleheader scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
