TUCSON, AZ - The Calvin softball team split a pair of games on Tuesday afternoon, falling 7-3 to North Central and defeating Carleton College 11-3.

In the loss to North Central, sophomore Lina Avila took the loss but also went 3-for-4 at the plate including a three-run homer. Senior Marie Prins and freshman Trista Brownlee also had two hits apiece.

In the win over Carleton, Brownlee tossed a three-hitter, striking out six and walking none in a game limited to six innings because of the mercy-rule.

Calvin belted four homeruns in the win with Avila and freshmen Merin Cok, C.J. Hillbrands and Nicole Weener all going deep. The homeruns for Cok, Hillbrands and Weener were the first of their collegiate careers.

Calvin is now 3-5 on the year and returns to action on Wednesday when it faces Augsburg and Whitworth in single games.
