Softball Splits in Regular Season Finales in Tucson, AZ

TUCSON, AZ - Calvin closed out its spring break trip by splitting a pair of games Friday morning, falling to Marian (WI) 8-0 before bouncing back to defeat Edgewood 15-0. Heading into conference play next week, the Knights are 4-3 overall.

In the loss to Marian, Calvin managed just one hit which came off the bat of sophomore Marie Prins (Unity Christian HS). Senior Mandy Johnson (Northpointe Christian HS) took the loss for the Knights.

Calvin then bounced back to defeat Edgewood behind a 12-hit attack. Freshman Hannah DeWeerd (Grand Rapids Christian HS) highlighted the offensive attack for Calvin by going 4-for-4 at the plate with a homerun. Sophomore Kim VandenAkker (Grand Rapids Christian HS) went 2-for-5 and scored three runs while Prins went 1-for-3 and drove in three runs. Sophomore Kyleigh Fri (Allendale HS) also had a double in the win. Freshman Shelby Mast (Hudsonville HS) tossed a one-hitter for Calvin in picking up her fourth victory of the year, striking out four and walking three.

Calvin is back in action on March 31 when it travels to Alma for a conference doubleheader.
