Softball Drops Two at Trine

ANGOLA, IN—Calvin dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Trine University Wednesday afternoon, falling by scores of 7-2 and 11-4.
In game one, Calvin (2-13 overall., 0-4 MIAA) collected seven hits but committed four errors which led to three unearned runs. Freshman Marie Prins (Unity Christian HS) had a pair of doubles for the Knights while senior Loren Scarbrough (Antioch, IL) went 3-for-3 with a triple. Junior Mandy Johnson (Northpointe Christian HS) took the loss for Calvin.
In game two, Calvin scored four runs in the bottom of the first on the strength of four hits but the Knights were unable to score again. Meanwhile, Trine (15-6 overall, 2-0 MIAA) grabbed a 5-4 lead in the third and then tacked on a run in the fifth, a run in the sixth and four runs in the seventh.
Prins had two hits in game two to raise her season batting average to .423. Also rapping out doubles for Calvin were Scarbrough, junior Whisper Miller (Reed City HS) and senior Jen VandenAkker (Grand Rapids Christian HS).
Senior Kristin Folkerts (Grand Rapids Christian HS) took the loss for Calvin, striking out one and walking one.
Calvin returns to action on Saturday when it participates in a non-conference triangular at North Central (IL) that will also include the University of Chicago.
