The Knights lost the first half of a double header with an MIAA foe, losing 10-0 to the 13th ranked Adrian Bulldogs on Thursday.
Adrian scored early and often, tallying two runs in the first off, making use of four Calvin errors to do so. The Knights were able to get the lead-off runner on base, with Shelby Sheehan drawing a walk, but a strike out and a double play retired Calvinís first half efforts.
Adrian then notched four more runs in the second. Katie Dewyre hit a single through the gap between third and short to score two runs and Sarah Hall and Kristin Toney each tallied RBIís to finish the first half of the inning on top by six.
The Bulldogs put up two more runs in the third and fourth innings. Lauren Spoelstra and Hannah DeWeerd would record hits for the Knights, the game ended after five innings with Calvin unable to score a run.
The loss dropped starting pitcher Lina Avila to 1-3, while Adrianís ace Kelly Eberhardt improved to 14-0.
After losing the first game 10-0, Calvin rebounded with a solid performance in the second half of a double header with Adrian. Their efforts fell just short however, as the Knights lost the game 2-1.
Calvin tied the game in the top of the sixth, with Lina Avila driving home Marie Prins. Prins got on base with a single to center field and Avila hit her home with a single and a fielding error that allowed her to advance to third base.
With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Adrian found some two out magic to conclude the game. After two quick outs, Maggie Hein singled to left field and Katie Adams hit a walk-off triple to give the Bulldogs the victory.
Calvin starter Shelby Mast was strong on the mound, recording seven strikeouts and allowing only six hits. The loss however, moves her record to 1-5.Kelly Eberhardt earned the victory in 1.1 innings of work.
