Rebecca Kamp Named First Team AVCA D3 All-American - Megan Rietema Named National Freshman of Year

For the third consecutive year, Calvin College junior Rebecca Kamp has been named a first team Division III All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. A native of Orland Park, Illinois, and a graduate of Chicago Christian High School, Kamp is the first three-time AVCA All-American in Calvin history.
A 6-1 middle-blocker, Kamp has helped Calvin advance all the way to the national quarterfinals of the NCAA III Tournament as the Knights captured a regional championship this past Saturday night with an upset win over second-ranked Wittenberg University. At the regional tournament hosted by Wittenberg, Kamp was named the tournamen’ts Most Outstanding Player. Earlier this month, she was also named the MIAA’s Most Valuable Player and earned spots on the All-MIAA first team and Great Lakes All-Region team for the third straight year.
She is averaging 4.18 kills, 1.35 blocks and 0.41 service aces per-set and holds a hitting percentage of .443. She has been ranked among the national leaders in hitting percentage, kills, blocks and points-per-set throughout the year.
A native of Grand Rapids and a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School, Rietema was also named to the all-tournament team at the regional hosted by Wittenberg University last weekend. Earlier this month, Rietema was also named the MIAA and Great Lakes Regional Freshman of the Year and earned spots on the All-MIAA first team and Great Lakes All-Region team. She has also earned a spot on the 2010 AVCA Division III Honorable Mention All-America list.
Rietema is averaging 10.77 assists. 1.81 digs and 1.14 blocks per-set. She has been ranked among the national leaders in assists and blocks throughout the season.
Joining Rietema on the AVCA Division III Honorable Mention All-America list is sophomore outside hitter Lizzie Kamp. A native of Orland Park, Illinois, and a graduate of Chicago Christian High School, Lizzie Kamp is averaging 2.87 kills, 2.27 digs and 0.33 blocks-per-set along with a hitting percentage of .327. She was also named to the all-tournament team at the Wittenberg Regional and was named to the All-MIAA first team and Great Lakes All-Region team earlier this year. She is receiving AVCA Division III Honorable Mention All-America honors for the second straight year.
Calvin is preparing for the Elite Eight Round of the NCAA III Tournament this weekend which will take place in St. Louis, Missouri. Calvin will face the University of Massachusetts Boston on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. (EST) at the Washington University Fieldhouse.
