Rebecca Kamp, a freshman middle blocker for Calvin College, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week.
She earned the award after leading the Knights to a 4-1 record last week, which included upsets over two nationally-ranked opponents at the Wittenberg Border Battle Tournament. In the Knights 3-0 win over Trine, Kamp hit .467 with 16 kills in 30 attempts and two errors, while adding nine digs, one ace, one solo block and two block assists in the win.
She followed that up by collecting 12 kills, three digs, two solo blocks and four block assists in Calvin’s sweep of Hiram. After racking up 24 kills in a 3-1 set back to Mt. St. Joseph, Kamp scored 20 kills, two digs, two aces, three solo blocks and four block assists in a 3-1 win over then-No. 10 Ohio Northern. She closed out her week with a 14-kill, eight-dig, one-ace, two solo-block and one block-assist performance in a three-set upset of then-No. 5 Wittenberg.
For the week, Kamp, who was named to the Wittenberg Border Battle All-Tournament Team, hit .411, while averaging 5.06 kills, 1.65 digs, 1.41 blocks and 6.2 points per set.
This marks the fourth time an athlete from Calvin has been awarded the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week award.
Other individuals from Calvin to receive the honor are Molly Krikke (2007), Jill Harkema (1996) and Erika VanStralen (1995).
Ranked 15th in the most-recent AVCA Division III Top 25 poll, The Knights are coached by Amber Warners.
