For the first time in his career, Calvin College senior Peter Steiner has been named the MIAA’s Position Player of the Week in baseball. Steiner shares the award this week with Trine’s Zach Ebersole. Steiner, a senior from Chicago, Ill. (Glenbrook South HS), went 3-for-9 at the plate for a .333 average with six RBIs and four runs scored as the Knights swept a four-game series from Olivet. He delivered a game-winning two-run double on Friday in a 4-2 win over the Comets, then belted a two-run homer that was the difference the next day in a 3-2 victory. Steiner also stole three bases and drew three walks in the series, and pitched a complete-game victory in the 4-2 win, scattering eight hits.

Steiner is currently 22-8 in his collegiate career - just three wins shy of matching the Calvin career mark of 25 set by Jim Deters from 2002-to-2005.

Calvin returns to action this Thursday with a doubleheader at Trine slated to start at 2 p.m.
