More All-America Honors For Verkaik - Women’s Hoops Ranked in Top 20 in Final National Polls

Calvin College sophomore center Carissa Verkaik has received All-America honors from yet one more publication. Verkaik has been named a second team All-American by the publication Women’s Division III News. It is the third All-America honor for Verkaik in the last seven days as she previously was named a first team d3hoops.com All-American and an honorable mention State Farm All-American by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.
A native of Holland and a graduate of Holland Christian High School, Verkaik averaged 19.8 points and 9.5 rebounds a game this year while leading Calvin to a 25-5 overall record. In the final NCAA III statistics released yesterday afternoon, Verkaik finished third nationally in blocked shots per-game (4.1), fifth in field goal percentage (.596) and eighth in free throw percentage (.867) while also ranking 19th in scoring average.
She helped Calvin as a team finish second nationally in field goal percentage defense (.306), second in blocked shots per-game (6.9), second in three-point field goal defense (.233) and fifth in scoring defense (49.2).
In addition, Calvin has been ranked 16th in the final USA Today/ESPN Division III Top 25 poll conducted by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and 19th in the final d3hoops.com Top 25 poll of the year.
