Men’s Tennis Topples Trine

ANGOLA, In - Calvin picked up an 8-1 victory at Trine University Saturday afternoon to improve to 11-7 overall and 3-1 in the MIAA. Calvin swept all three doubles points with senior Andrew DeVlieger and Philip Reinken winning 8-6 at No. 1 doubles, sophomore Brian DeMaagd and freshman Loukas Peterson winning 8-2 at No. 2 doubles and sophomore Preston Phillips and sophomore Jarrod Brower winning 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.
Calvin then picked up straight sets victories in five of the six singles flights with Trine’s lone win coming at No. 1 singles. Singles winners for Calvin were DeMaagd at No. 2 singles, Phillips at No. 3 singles, Peterson at No. 4 singles, Brower at No. 5 singles and Reinken at No. 6 singles.
DeMaagd and Phillips both reached the 11-win mark in singles play with their Saturday victories.
Calvin returns to action next Tuesday, traveling to Spring Arbor University for a non-conference match at 3:30 p.m.
