Men’s Tennis Team Has Strong Showing at Grand Rapids City Tournament

The men’s tennis team had a strong showing at the Grand Rapids City Tournament this past weekend

In singles play, Calvin advanced four individuals into the tournament finals and crowned one flight champion. Calvin’s lone singles championship came from senior Marcus Zeilstra (Hinsdale, IL) who who at No. 1 singles, defeating Hope’s John Pelton 7-5, 3-6, 10-7 in the championship final.

Sophomore Andrew DeVlieger (Northpointe Christian HS) also advanced to the finals at No. 4 singles while senior Andrew Rescorla (Zionsville, IN) advanced to the finals at No. 6 singles. In addition, sophomore Roland Eldridge (Charlotte, NC) advanced to the finals at No. 8 singles.

In doubles play, Zeilstra and senior Steve DeMaagd (Calvin Christian HS) advanced to the finals at No. 1 doubles, before falling to the Hope tandem of Pelton and Gardner 6-7, 6-4, 10-8.

Calvin returns to action on March 11 when it hosts Grand Valley State at 4:00 p.m.
