Men’s Tennis Splits First Two Matches in Orlando

The Calvin men’s tennis team is 3-2 overall and 1-1 thus far on its spring trip to Orlando, Florida. On Monday, Calvin suffered a hard-fought 5-4 decision to Hamline University but rebounded to defeat North Central College 9-0 Tuesday afternoon.
In the loss to Hamline, Calvin fell behind 2-1 after doubles player with Calvin’s lone doubles point coming from senior Roland Eldridge and sophomore Preston Phillips at No. 1 doubles. Calvin was able to muster only a three-point split in singles play with senior Andrew DeVlieger winning at No. 2 singles, Phillips winning at No. 4 singles and sophomore Philip Reinken winning at No. 6 singles.
In Calvin’s win over North Central, Calvin received singles victories from Eldridge, DeVlieger, DeMaagd, Phillips, sophomore Jarrod Brower and Reinken. Eldridge and Phillips were winners at No. 1 doubles, DeMaagd and freshman Loukas Peterson winners at No. 2 doubles and DeVlieger and Reinken winners at No. 3 doubles.
Calvin is back in action on Wednesday, taking on Colorado College at noon.
