Men’s Tennis Falls to to Oglethorpe in Spring Break Finale

ORLANDO, FL - Calvin concluded its spring break trip with a 5-3 loss to Ogelthorpe University Friday morning. The Knights are now 5-4 on the season. Calvin opened the match with early momentum, gaining wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.

Freshman Preston Phillips (Bexley, OH) and junior Roland Eldridge (Charlotte, NC) picked up an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles while sophomore Jon Goorhouse (Holland Christian HS) and junior Andrew DeVlieger (Northpointe Christian HS) were 8-1 winners at No. 3 doubles.

Oglethorpe turned the tables on Calvin in single play however, picking up wins at No. 1, 2, 3 and 4 singles. Calvin’s lone win came at No. 5 singles with sophomore Brian DeMaagd (Calvin Christian HS) picking up a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Freshman Philip Reinken (Morton, IL) also had a match underway at No. 6 singles but with final outcome decided, his match was not completed, creating the final 5-3 score.

Calvin is back in action next Friday when it travels to Earlham University next Friday at 4 p.m.
