KALAMAZOO - Calvin jumped out to a 2-1 lead but could not gain another point in a 7-2 loss at nationally-ranked Kalamazoo College. For the second straight year against Kalamazoo, Calvin (5-6 overall, 2-1 MIAA) grabbed two of the three doubles points but the 27th-ranked Hornets (7-9 overall, 4-0 MIAA) came roaring back to sweep all six singles flights.
Calvin’s two points came at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Juniors Preston Phillips (Bexley, OH/Bexley HS) and Philip Reinken (Morton, IL/Morton HS) pulled out a gutty 9-7 win at No. 1 doubles while junior Brian DeMaagd (Grandville/Calvin Christian HS) and sophomore Loukas Peterson (Brentwood, TN/Brentwood HS) were 8-6 winners at No. 2 doubles.
Calvin returns to action this Friday and Saturday at the GLCA Tournament at Oberlin College. Calvin will open the tournament on Friday with dual matches against DePauw and Ohio Wesleyan.
