Men’s Tennis Defeats Trine 8-1 at Strikwerda Tennis Courts

Calvin bumped its overall record to 12-7 and its conference mark to 3-1 with an 8-1 conference victory over the visiting Thunder of Trine University Wednesday at the Strikwerda Tennis Courts.
Calvin grabbed an immediate 3-0 lead in doubles play, winning all three flights by scores of 8-4. Roland Eldridge and Preston Phillips picked up a win at No. 1 doubles after trailing 2-1 early on. Andrew Rescorla and Brian DeMaagd then teamed up for the win at No. 2 doubles while sophomore Jon Goorhouse and junior Andrew DeVlieger came up with the win at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, DeVlieger claimed a 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles, Eldridge was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 2 singles, Phillips a 6-2, 6-1 winner at No. 3 singles, Rescorla a 6-1, 7-5 winner at No. 4 singles and DeMaagd a 6-2, 6-0 winner at No. 6 singles.
Phillips and DeMaagd both picked up their 11th singles victory of the year during the match while Eldridge and Phillips picked up win No. 11 in doubles, Rescorla and DeMaagd doubles victory No. 12 and DeVlieger and Goorhouse win No. 12 in doubles as well.
Calvin returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Kalamazoo for a 2 p.m. match.
