Men’s Tennis Defeats Spring Arbor 7-2 in Non-Conference Match

LANSING - Calvin upped its overall record to 12-7 with a 7-2 victory over Spring Arbor University Tuesday afternoon inside the Lansing Michigan Athletic Club. The match began in reverse order as the six singles flights were completed before the doubles action began.
Calvin jumped out to a 4-1 lead behind victories from sophomore Brian DeMaagd at No. 3 singles, sophomore Preston Phillips at No. 4 singles, freshman Loukas Peterson at No. 5 singles and sophomore Philip Reinken at No. 6 singles. Spring Arbor’s first point came at No. 2 singles and its second and final point came at No. 1 singles, cutting the Calvin lead to 4-2.
The Knights then clinched the match by sweeping all three doubles flights with senior Roland Eldridge and Phillips winning at No. 1 doubles, senior Andrew DeVlieger and Reinken winning at No. 2 doubles and Peterson and DeMaagd winning at No. 3 doubles.
Phillips now has a nine-match win streak in singles play while Reinken has won seven consecutive matches in singles play. In addition, DeMaagd and Peterson have now won eight consecutive doubles matches together.
Calvin is back in action on Thursday, hosting Adrian at 4 p.m. in an MIAA conference match.
