Men’s tennis defeats Ohio Wesleyan 5-0

HOLLAND, MI - After falling to Wabash 5-2 in the morning, the Calvin men’s tennis team returned to its winning ways with a 5-0 win against Ohio Wesleyan. Calvin concludes day of of the MIAA/NCAC Challenge with a 1-1 record.
Calvin won all three doubles matches while surrendering no more than four games in each flight. Seniors Preston Phillips (Bexley, OH/Bexley HS) and Phil Reinken (Morton, IL/Morton HS) defeated John Rissell (Whitefish Bay, WI/University School) and Richie Karban (Elyria, OH/Elyria HS) 8-4 at first doubles.
Senior Brian DeMaagd (Grandville/Calvin Christian) and junior Loukus Peterson (Brentwood, TN/Brentwood HS) defeated John Russell (Maumee. OH/Maumee HS) and Will Thieman (Colombus, OH/Upper Arlington) 8-2 at second doubles. Senior Jarrod Brower (Holland/Holland Christian) and John Strikwerda (Holland/Holland Christian) picked up an 8-3 victory at third doubles.
Calvin needed only two singles wins to clinch the match. DeMaagd handled Rissell 6-0, 6-1 at first singles. Peterson defeated Connor Breen (Essix Falls, NJ/Kimberly Academy) 6-0, 6-0 at fourth singles.
Calvin improves to 11-2 on the season. The Knights return to action tomorrow morning when they face Oberlin at 10:00 a.m.
