Men’s Tennis Defeats Grand Rapids Community College 8-1

Calvin picked up an 8-1 win over Grand Rapids Community College Friday afternoon at Calvin’s Strikwerda Tennis Center. The win will not count on Calvin’s season record however as it did not come against a four-year institution. Calvin swept all three doubles flights and five of the six singles flights to gain the win.
Picking up singles points for Calvin were junior Brian DeMaagd (Grandville/Calvin Christian HS) at No. 1 singles, junior Preston Phillips (Bexley, OH/Bexley HS) at No. 2 singles, sophomore Loukas Peterson Brentwood, TN/Brentwood HS) at No. 3 singles, junior Philip Reinken (Morton, IL/Morton HS) at No. 4 singles and senior Vashan Wright (Portmore, Jamaica/Wolmers HS) at No. 6 singles.
In doubles play, DeMaagd and Phillips were 8-2 winners at No. 1 doubles, Peterson and Reinken were winners at No. 2 doubles and junior Jarrod Brower (Holland/Holland Christan HS) and sophomore John Strikwerda (Holland/Holland Christian HS) 8-6 winners at No. 3 doubles.
Calvin will now prepare to travel to Orlando, Florida. The Knights will compete in a series of matches next week in Orlando including a Monday match against Grinnell College.
