Men’s Soccer Wins at Trine 4-0 - Win Streak at Eight

ANGOLA, IN - The Calvin men’s soccer team stretched its winning streak to eight games and retained a share of first place in the MIAA standings with a 4-0 win over Trine University Saturday afternoon.
Senior Joe Broekhuizen (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) put Calvin on the board in the first half, ripping in his team-leading ninth goal of the year on a feed from freshman Sam Hanover (Saint Johns/Saint Johns HS) in the ninth minute of play.
Calvin then scored three times in the second half. The scoring surge began when sophomore Travis Vegter (Hudsonville/Unity Christian HS) scored off a pass from freshman Taylor Pruis (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) and moments later, flipped around as Pruis scored on a pass from Vegter. Junior Zakk Rankin (Fishers, IN/Hamilton Southeastern HS) closed out the scoring with a goal in the 85th minute with senior Kyle Vela (Grand Rapids/Forest Hils Northern HS) drawing an assist on the play.
Calvin held a 12-8 shots at goal advantage. Senior Jared Rushlau (Grandville/Grandville HS) picked up four saves for the Knights in gaining the shutout victory.
Calvin will travel to Albion next Tuesday for a 4 p.m. match.
