Tuesday, September 07, 2010
For the first time in school history, the Calvin men’s soccer team holds the top spot in the Division III National Soccer Coaches Association of America Top 25 poll. The Knights move up a spot this week after starting off the season with a pair of victories. Defending national champion Messiah (PA) held the pre-season number-one spot but suffered a 2-1 loss to Hobart (NY) Friday night and dropped to #17 in this week’s poll. Hobart is now ranked second.
Calvin opened its 2010 season with a 1-0 win over Milwaukee School of Engineering on Friday and followed with a 3-0 win over Goshen on Saturday. Both games were part of the Cal Bergsma Memorial Tournament.
Calvin is now preparing for a weekend trip to the Chicago suburbs as the Knights will journey to Wheaton (IL) Friday night for a 7 p.m. (CST) game under the lights at Wheaton’s Joe Bean Field. The game will feature a video stream via the WETN website at: WETN
Wheaton is also off to a 2-0 start and is ranked 18th in this week’s NSCAA Division III Top 25 poll. On Saturday, Calvin will journey over the highway to nearby Naperville, Illinois, to face North Central College. Saturday’s game against North Central will also take place at 7 p.m. (CST).
