Men’s Golf Wins MIAA Jamboree at Alma - Widens Overall Lead in MIAA Standings

ALMA - The Calvin men’s golf team got back on the winning track with a first place team score of 301 strokes at the sixth MIAA Jamboree of the year. The jamboree was hosted on Saturday by Alma at the Pine River Country Club. With two MIAA Jamborees left to play, Calvin has a 20-stroke lead over second place Trine and a 27-stroke lead over third place Hope. Calvin will host the upcoming MIAA Jamboree this Monday at the Watermark Country Club in Cascade.
Calvin has now taken first place at four MIAA Jamborees this year - marking the most first place team finishes in school history in a single year.
Senior Ben Kuiper (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) led Calvin with a 73 with senior teammate Dave Sarkipato (Kalamazoo/Kalamazoo Christian HS) close behind with a 75. Junior Jake Hoogstrate (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) continued his strong play with a 76 while sophomore James VanNoord (Troy/Troy Athens HS) had a 77 and junior Mark Allen (Oconomowoc, WI/Lake Country Lutheran HS) an 82. Sophomore Michael Wierenga (Caledonia/South Christian HS) had a 77 as an alternate.
The score by Ben Kuiper was good for second place individually on Saturday and leaves him in the thick of the MIAA individual title hunt.
Monday’s MIAA Jamboree is slated to start at 1 p.m.
