Men’s Golf Ties For Third at MIAA Outing - Moves Within Three of Albion in Team Standings

MARSHALL—The Calvin men’s golf team had another strong performance in MIAA play, finishing tied for third place at an MIAA outing hosted by Albion Tuesday afternoon at the Medalist Golf Club.
Calvin tied for third place with Trine University, recording a team score of 321 strokes. Olivet again took first place, recording a score of 310 strokes, three strokes ahead of second place Hope.
Olivet holds an 18-stroke lead over Hope for first place in the MIAA standings. Meanwhile, Calvin remains in fifth place in the overall standings but closed to within three strokes of fourth place Albion and remained within 13 strokes of third place Trine.
Calvin picked up seven strokes on Albion on Tuesday as the host Britons took sixth with a team score of 328 strokes.
Leading the way for the Knights on Tuesday was junior Aaron Hargett (Lakewood/Lakewood-Lake Odessa HS) who finished second individually with a sterling round of 74. Hargett has been hot in league play as he also owns rounds of 78 at the first two MIAA outings of the year.
Drew Lasky of Olivet was Tuesday’s medalist, firing a score of 71.
Rounding out Calvin’s finishers on Tuesday were sophomore Eric Doezema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) with an 81 (15th place), sophomore Jess Hendriksma (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) with an 82 (18th place), junior Jon Kuiper (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) with an 84 (25th place) and junior Kyle Harvey (Willard, OH/Willard HS) with an 86 (31st place).
Calvin returns to action on Saturday when it competes at the fourth MIAA outing of the year. The outing will be hosted by Adrian at the Lenawee Country Club beginning at 1:00 p.m.
