Men’s Golf Tied for Seventh Through Day One of Lou Collins Memorial Tournament

BATTLE CREEK - After one day of competition at the Lou Collins Memorial Tournament hosted by Olivet College, Calvin is tied for seventh place with a team score of 312 strokes. Trine University holds the lead with a first day total of 302 strokes. Calvin is tied for seventh with Adrian.

Calvin’s top individual on Friday was sophomore Ben Kuiper (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) with a round of 76 followed by senior Eric Doezema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) with a 77 and senior Jess Hendriksma (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) with a 79. Rounding out Calvin’s top group on Friday were junior Jake DeBoer (Byron Center, MI/South Christian HS) and sophomore Dave Sarkipato (Kalamazoo/Kalamazoo Christian HS) with rounds of 80.

Calvin also has a reserve team competing at the tournament. Calvin’s “B” team is currently 11th with a team score of 314 strokes. Calvin’s second team was led by freshman David Veen (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) with a 78 followed by sophomore Mike Fennema (Grand Rapids/South Christian HS) and freshman Jake Hoogstra (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) with rounds of 79. Freshmen Kory Kieffer (Howell, MI/Detroit Catholic Central HS) was next with an 82 while freshman Mark Allen (Oconomowoc, WI/Lake Country Lutheran HS) had an 83.

Action continues tomorrow morning at the Bedford Valley Country Club.
