Men’s Golf Third at MIAA Jamboree at Trine - Now in Sole Possession of Second Place in MIAA Standing

ANGOLA, IN—Calvin moved into sole possession of second place in the MIAA standings on Saturday, posting a third place team score of 302 strokes at an MIAA Jamboree hosted by Trine University at the Zollner Golf Club. The Knights are now in a fierce fight for second place in the overall standins as Trine moved within a stroke of the Knights with a first place team score of 287 on Saturday. Hope took second with a score of 290 to widen its overall lead in the MIAA standings to 25 strokes with three league outings left to play.
Calvin’s top golfer on Saturday was junior Jess Hendriksma (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) with a round of 73 that left him tied for eighth place individually. Senior Jon Kuiper (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) and freshman Dave Sarkipato (Kalamazoo/Kalamazoo Christian HS) were close behind with rounds of 75 that were good for a 13th place tie on Saturday. Rounding out Calvin’s finishers were junior Eric Doezema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) and freshman Ben Kuiper (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) with rounds of 79.
Steven Strock and Charles Olson of Hope shared medalist honors with rounds of 70.
Calvin returns to action on Monday when it competes at an MIAA Jamboree hosted by Hope at the Wuskowhan Player’s Club at 1:00 p.m.
