Men’s Golf Second at MIAA Jamboree - Van Noord Claims Medalist Honors

BATTLE CREEK - The Calvin men’s golf team had another solid afternoon, finishing second with a team score of 309 at the third MIAA Jamboree of the year. The MIAA Jamboree was hosted on Wednesday by Olivet at the Bedford Valley Country Club.
Hope took first place with a team score of 301 and with the performance, moved into first place in the overall team standings. The Flying Dutchmen hold a five stroke lead over Calvin and Adrian with the Knights and Bulldogs tied for second place in the overall team standings. Adrian had led the overall standings by a single stroke heading into Wednesday’s round but finished one stroke behind Calvin in third.
Calvin junior James Van Noord (Troy/Troy Athens HS) had a superb afternoon on Wednesday as he claimed medalist honors with a first place score of 71. It marked the second time medalist performance of Van Noord’s career as he also achieved the feat once in 2012. With his performance on Wednesday, Van Noord also takes over first place in the MIAA individual standings overall.
Sophomore Justin Crow (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) was next for Calvin with a 78. Senior Jake Hoogstrate (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) and freshman Brad Smith (Brunswick, ME/Brunswick HS) had rounds of 80 while senior Mark Allen (Oconomowoc, WI/Lake Country Lutheran HS) had an 82.
Calvin is back in action on Saturday, competing at an MIAA Jamboree hosted by Alma at the Pine River Country Club at 1 p.m.
